On the 11th of May 1818 The Old Vic, the Waterloo-based but world-famous producing theatre, was founded as The Royal Coburg Theatre.
Back in 2018, The Old Vic celebrated its 200th birthday. Check out 200 pictures which the team behind the theatre put together to celebrate the past, the present and the future of this wonderful locally-based organisation!
We got in touch with Matthew Warchus, Artistic Director at The Old Vic, who in celebration of this anniversary but also in light of the current public health crisis told us:
"Let’s all focus on coming through this separation with our togetherness intact. Even strengthened. Take care of yourselves and each other. Be creative. There’s going to be some great theatre on the other side. I’ll meet you there!"
Watch out for a monologue on Emma Cons under whose ownership the theatre re-opened in 1880. It will be published on the Festival's website this Wednesday 13th May, as part of our 'Women of Waterloo and Lambeth' series!
