St John’s Waterloo is planning a major redevelopment project called ReIgnite - you may have heard or seen the banners outside the church. The plans for the building are well advanced and will involve making the building more fit-for-purpose, with new space, new facilities and access for all.
Can. Giles Goddard told us "we will be transforming the Crypt, installing a lift for improved accessibility and creating new meeting and performance spaces and an exhibition space. The Church space will be improved too, making it an even better space for worship, concerts, performances and community events."
"We had hoped to close the church and start the building project in July and have it completed by April 2021. However, given the challenging times we are all living through, we are having to re-visit this timetable. We will be keeping everyone informed about the project through our regular newsletters and social media. If you are interested (and when access to the building is permitted) we’d love to show you round and tell you about our building plans which will ensure that St John’s continues to be HERE FOR YOU in the coming months and years as a hub for the Waterloo community."
"You may be aware that, alongside our regular weekly services, we help the homeless and run employment skills and digital training for the unemployed. We do a lot of work with people on the margins and make them central, working in partnership with local organisations like Roots and Shoots, the Waterloo Food Bank, Coin Street Community Builders. We run the Waterloo Festival, an annual celebration of international, national and local creativity (now on-line for the first time). We’re home to one of the best youth orchestras in the world and we provide meeting and performance space for arts groups and charities."
"But we could do all this better and so much more if our building were fit-for-purpose.
